I’ve always had endless ideas for how I could optimize my workflows - many just far-fetched dreams. I had to choose between optimizing workflows and actually building products. But let’s face it: Most software just never felt that great to begin with. Apps are either too complex, too simple, or don’t support the exact workflow I want. Sometimes they have just one or two tiny UX issues that annoy me to no end.
With agents, it’s become incredibly easy to build specialized apps for individual use cases. In the past few months, I’ve built two apps that I use for hours every day: a code review app and a markdown app to keep track of notes, meetings and people.
Sure, there are plenty of code review tools and note editors - but none worked the way I wanted them to. Up until recently it wasn’t feasible to build these types of apps from scratch - on my own, on the side. Even six months ago it would have taken months of full-time work to build “the app of my dreams” for any category.
I’m still astonished at the rate of change. These apps no longer take months or years to ship, and a single user is a valid “addressable market”. I can build truly personalized local software now - it’s incredible. Build specialized apps.
